Burke Construction Group is Honored to be Part of the Forever One Memorial Project

LAS VEGAS, October 2026 – Burke Construction Group is honored to announce the groundbreaking of the Forever One Memorial Project.

Burke Construction Group, alongside the Forever One Memorial team, JCJ Architecture, and community partners, recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the Forever One Memorial, marking a significant milestone in the development of a permanent space dedicated to honoring those affected by the events of October 1, 2017.

The Forever One Memorial will serve as a permanent place of remembrance and reflection, honoring the 58 lives lost on October 1, 2017, as well as the survivors and first responders whose lives were forever changed. Designed as a space for the Las Vegas community to gather, reflect, and find connection, the memorial will stand as a lasting tribute to the strength, compassion, and unity that emerged in the wake of tragedy.

Serving as general contractor, Burke will oversee construction of the memorial, helping translate its thoughtful design and meaningful purpose into a permanent part of the Las Vegas community. The project carries a unique responsibility, one that extends beyond construction to the care and consideration required to bring such an important space to life.

The groundbreaking represents an important step forward for the Forever One Memorial and the Las Vegas community. Through the continued collaboration of project partners, supporters, and community members, the memorial will establish a permanent place to remember, reflect, and carry forward the spirit of Vegas Strong.

Burke Construction Group is proud to announce the promotion of Dimitri Mihaloliakos to Senior Vice President of Estimating, Gitana Cafasso to Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, and Scott Council to Vice President of Preconstruction. Each individual has demonstrated a strong commitment to their role during their tenure with Burke, contributing valuable insight, leadership, and forward-thinking ideas that continue to strengthen the organization.

Dimitri Mihaloliakos brings over 30 years of estimating experience, having been with Burke Construction Group majority of his career. He has played a key role in the successful delivery of high-profile projects such as UnCommons, Credit One Bank, and Glenn and Ande Christenson School of Education at Nevada State University. In addition to his professional achievements, Dimitri has been involved with industry organizations throughout his career such as the Nevada Contractors Association, CREDA Southern Nevada, and Vistage. His dedication to fostering industry growth and building strong partnerships has made him a trusted leader at Burke.

Gitana Cafasso has been an integral part of Burke’s Marketing Department, leading a wide range of initiatives, events, and strategic efforts. During her tenure as Director of Marketing, she played a key role in major project milestones, including leading Burke’s Forever One Memorial initiatives and planning the company’s involvement with the JusRun Vegas Strong 5K/1M as well as planning Burke’s involvement with the In the Field Tour for local CCSD students. Gitana is also actively involved in the construction industry, currently serving on the CREDA Southern Nevada Board of Directors and participating in the Nevada Contractors Association, where she previously served on the Construction Leadership Council Board. Her industry engagement and strategic vision continue to elevate Burke’s presence and relationships throughout the region.

Scott Council has demonstrated exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and a strong work ethic throughout his role as Director of Preconstruction. With more than 30 years of industry experience, Scott brings a depth of knowledge to his projects and consistently contributes to innovative preconstruction practices. He is currently involved in several high-profile projects in Downtown Las Vegas, including 3rd Street Assemblage, The Myles, and Bria at Symphony Park. His ability to communicate effectively and advance project strategies has been instrumental in supporting successful project delivery.

Burke Construction Group’s CEO, Kevin Burke, Inducted Into Kansas State University Engineering Hall of Fame

Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce that our CEO, Kevin Burke, has been inducted into the Kansas State University Hall of Fame.

Burke Construction Group is proud to celebrate the induction of our CEO, Kevin Burke, into the Kansas State University Engineering Hall of Fame — an honor reserved for fewer than 1% of the college’s graduates. This distinction is the highest recognition bestowed by the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional professional achievement, service to their industry, and dedication to K-State. A 1986 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Kevin has remained deeply connected to his alma mater through his service on the KSU Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the College of Engineering Advisory Council. In 2019, he was recognized as a Kansas State Alumni Fellow for the College of Engineering, further highlighting his longstanding commitment to the university.

Kevin joined Burke Construction Group in 1989 and recently celebrated 35 years with the company, serving as CEO since 2001. Throughout his career, he has remained dedicated to both the construction industry and his community. He served on the Nevada State Contractors Board from 2008 to 2019, having been appointed chairman four times by the governor of Nevada. He has also been a member of the Nevada Contractors Association Board of Directors since 2008 and continues to contribute to the industry through his involvement with organizations such as CREDA, SIOR, AIA, and YPO Gold. In addition to his leadership at Burke, Kevin co-founded Matter Real Estate Group in 2018, where he remains a Partner, furthering his commitment to shaping the built environment. He also serves on the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, supporting the advancement of higher education in Nevada. In 2024, he was recognized as one of Nevada Business Magazine’s most respected leaders, a testament to his steady leadership and impact on the industry.

Kevin’s dedication to his community is reflected in his involvement with organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Boys & Girls Club, and the Michael T. Martin Foundation. As part of Burke Construction Group’s 40th Anniversary, he led the company’s partnership with NWCTA, providing new equipment and PPE gear to enhance the hands-on learning experience for students in the Construction Technology program. Following this effort, students had the opportunity to visit one of Burke’s active jobsites, gaining real-world exposure to the industry. Kevin’s leadership and commitment to both his profession and community continue to make a lasting impact.

Burke Construction Group’s Director of Construction, Ryan Plutchak, Joins the Nevada Contractors Association Board of Directors

Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce that our Director of Construction, Ryan Plutchak, has joined the Nevada Contractors Association Board of Directors.

Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce that Ryan Plutchak, Director of Construction, has recently joined the Nevada Contractors Association (NCA) Board of Directors. The NCA strengthens the construction industry and community through leadership programs, skills training, and representation. By hosting learning opportunities such as workshops and scholarships, the NCA promotes growth, trust, and collaboration within the industry.

Ryan Plutchak graduated with a Construction Management degree with a focus in Project Management from Michigan State University. He was recently promoted into the role of Director of Construction after previously serving as a Senior Project Manager at Burke Construction Group. With over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Ryan has gained a wealth of expertise, working on a wide variety of projects across Nevada, including the award-winning UnCommons development. UnCommons has been recognized with several awards, including the 2023 Honor Award for Mixed-Use Development from CREDA Southern Nevada, the 2022 Healthy Place Award Urban Category from ULI Nevada Placemaking Awards for Excellence, and Certificates of Congressional Recognition from the U.S. Senate and the Asian-American and Pacific Islander Chamber.

In addition to his new role on the NCA Board of Directors, Ryan has been actively involved with the organization, as he currently serves as the Permits and Inspections Committee Chair. His industry involvement extends further as an active member of CREDA Southern Nevada, exemplifying his dedication to the growth and advancement of the construction community.

Ryan Plutchak brings over 15 years of construction expertise and previously served as a Senior Project Manager at Burke. In addition to his professional achievements, Ryan is an active member of the construction community, serving with organizations like the Nevada Contractors Association (NCA) and the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (CREDA). Cameron Dean, with over 20 years of industry experience, has been an integral part of Burke, contributing significantly to the company’s success. Burke Construction Group Announces the Promotion of Thad Lawrence as Chief Operating Officer

Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Thad Lawrence from Vice President to Chief Operating Officer. In 2007, Thad began his career at Burke as a Project Manager and has since held many distinct roles. For more than 15 years, he has been an integral part of the growth and development of Burke Construction Group. He has assumed leadership assignments in operations, estimating, and preconstruction and thus gained a unique insight which will help him excel in his new role. Thad has played an essential role in the successful execution of many projects throughout the years, and he will continue to bring his knowledge, mentorship and experience on all current and future projects. As COO, Thad will oversee the corporate operations of the Company which includes the execution of our corporate vision and mission, as well as the overall management of Burke’s operating divisions. Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce the addition of Debbie Schmitt as Vice President of Finance & Accounting. With more than 20 years in the finance and accounting field, Debbie’s successful track record in the industry and exceptional professionalism aligns with Burke’s unparalleled commitment to excellence. Working her way through the ranks in her career, Debbie has demonstrated unmatched potential and the ability to take her teams to high levels of growth and performance. Her strong leadership qualities, expertise and charisma will provide both strategic and deliberate insight to the company.

Debbie started her career in public accounting as a Senior Staff Auditor with a world-class, multi-national accounting firm. Since that time, she spent 8 years as the Division VP of Finance for Nevada and California with one of the largest home builders in the United States and Director of Accounting for a world-renowned hospitality corporation. Most recently, Debbie was the Controller for North America’s largest independently owned construction equipment rental company.

As part of Burke’s Senior Management Leadership team, Debbie will oversee the operations, management, and continuous development of the Accounting & Finance Department. In this key leadership role, she will be responsible for Burke’s essential financial activities. Debbie will lead the charge in providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the Senior Management Team in maintaining current and long-range strategies, plans and policies.

Burke Construction Group Announces the official groundbreaking of UnCommons, a much-anticipated mixed-use development at Interstate 215 and Durango Drive in southwest Las Vegas.

UnCommons, Matter Real Estate Group’s much-anticipated mixed-use development at Interstate 215 and Durango Drive in southwest Las Vegas, will be the first of its kind to be built with rigorous, science-based criteria set by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™). Burke Appointed as a Kansas State Alumni Fellow for the College of Engineering

Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce the recent appointment of President & CEO, Kevin E. Burke as a Kansas State Alumni Fellow for the College of Engineering. The College of Engineering enrolls over 4,100 students into 8 academic departments and 11 undergraduate degree programs.

Every year since 1983 the Kansas State Alumni Association recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers. With approximately 187,000 living graduates, this recognition is a special way of honoring alumni’s many contributions to their profession and the university. The 317 Kansas State Alumni Fellows are chosen by each college to return as distinguished guests, mentors, friends, and counselors. This special appointment will give Kevin the opportunity to share his professional expertise with students as well as faculty in the classroom and informal settings.

Kevin Burke earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in business management from Kansas State University. Since joining Burke Construction Group in 1989, Mr. Burke has held various leadership positions within the organization, culminating into his appointment as President & CEO in 2001. Kevin was twice appointed by the governor of Nevada as Chairman of the state’s Contractor’s Board and is currently sitting on the Nevada Contractors Association (NCA) board. Additionally, Mr. Burke also continues to play a key role in some of the construction industry’s most distinguished organizations, including National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (CREDA), Henderson Chamber of Commerce (HCC), Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA), Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Young President’s Organization (YPO) Gold. In addition to the large role Kevin plays within the industry, he is also very focused on giving back to the community through charities and volunteering opportunities, especially in the Southern Nevada region.

Burke Construction Group Announces the addition of New Shareholders & Principals

Burke Construction Group is pleased to announce the recent addition of Dimitri Mihaloliakos and Thad Lawrence as Shareholders and Principals.

Dimitri Mihaloliakos, a 22-year construction professional and Vice President of Estimating at Burke, previously held the role of Chief Estimator during his 13-year tenure.  Dimitri has built a strong reputation in the construction industry, remaining active in the commercial development community, where he serves as a member of the Nevada Contractors Association (NCA), National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (CREDA) and the leadership organization, Vistage. A graduate of the UNLV Construction Management Program with a minor in Architectural Design, Dimitri has volunteered his time and knowledge as a visiting professor at his alma mater.

With 20 years of industry knowledge, Vice President of Preconstruction Thad Lawrence, LEED AP, distinguished himself early-on since joining Burke in 2007.  During his tenure with the company, he has worked in the capacity of Project Manager – joining the Estimating and Preconstruction team in 2010, where he merged his years of experience in Operations.  Since that time, he was promoted to a Senior Estimator and Director of Preconstruction Services, where his leadership has been instrumental in delivering numerous successful projects – notably, serving as a certified U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Quality Management specialist leading our Federal Projects Division as well as the Development Manager and Project Executive for our Strategic Partners.  Committed to industry growth and education, Thad remains actively involved in organizations such as NCA, CREDA and Vistage.

Both executive team members have worked diligently over the years – continuing to provide leadership and strategic direction for our continued growth and success.  In addition to Partner/Principal Jim Colegrove, who heads Burke’s Special Projects Group, President & CEO, Kevin Burke noted that he “could not be more proud to welcome Dimitri and Thad into ownership of the company, a commitment which my brother and Founder would have been equally as proud.”
